Sec. Art Tugade Plans to Open Up Private Villages to Ease Manila Traffic

Pres. Rody Duterte's Cabinet member, Sec. Arthur Tugade of Department of Transportation reveals some plans on how to ease the worsening traffic congestion in Metro Manila. According to Sec. Tugade he seeks to open private subdivisions and villages to motorists to solve Manila's problems.

During the First Hearing of the Senate Public Services Committee on the "Proposed Emergency Powers for President Duterte" to solve the traffic problem in Metro Manila.

Sec. Tugade was quoted as saying "Sa kalsada sobra sobra na 'yung sasakyan. Sobra sobra, dapat bawasan 'yung sasakyan, magpatayo ka ng kalsada o gumamit ka ng kalsada ng iba, 'yung mga privately-owned kagaya ng subdivisions," Tugade said.

One of the solutions to ease the traffic problems in Metro Manila is reduce the number of cars and build more roads but the Transportation Secretary also suggested to use privately-owned roads like those in subdivisions to ease the worsening traffic problem in the country's capital city.

The former Clark Development Authority Chairman, Sec. Tugade also anticipates that there will be oppositions from homeowners but he explained that using private roads to ease the traffic will not be forever.

Sec. Tugade stated "Hindi naman makikiraan tayo habangbuhay." Right now, Sec. Tugade revealed that he personally asking subdivisions to help the government. The government also assured the homeowners that they will be safe once they approve the proposals.

"Let it be said right here and now, that our choices for private roads will not be arbitrary or whimsical. We will not compromise safety of subdivisions. Security mechanisms and security expenses will be borne by the government," he said.

Tugade added private roads in subdivisions would only be used for certain times, such as during peak hours.

Veteran columnist Rigoberto Tiglao exposed the Land Transportation Office (LTO) records of former President Benigno Aquino III showing that he never bought or sold an expensive Porsche car. The LTO records proved that the former President did not sold his Porsche 911 Carrera car which he claimed he bought for P5 million. The controversial Porsche car of the former President made headlines just months into his presidency but he explained that he bought the luxury car with the proceeds he got when he sold his BMW.
