DENR Proposed to Close Down at Least 20 Mining Firms

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through their head Sec. Gina Lopez announced that at least 20 more mining operations failed to pass an Environment Audit by the DENR, compelling the department to recommend that they shut down.

According to DENR Sec. Lopez, the mining companies which are listed below supposedly violated environmental laws by causing siltation and soil erosion, as well as unchecked dust emissions among other violations.

Based upon the findings of DENR, most mining companies who were proposed to be closed down are nickel producers operating in the island of Mindanao.

In an interview with the media, DENR Sec. Gina Lopez was quoted as saying "They have to get their act together," Sec. Gina Lopez said during a press briefing on Tuesday. "I will not allow any mining company to make millions while many people suffer ... That's not acceptable, that's against the law."

Although tthere's already a proposed shut down order for the mining firms mentioned above, the DENR also noted that miners must now explain within seven days why they should not be suspended.

DENR Senior Undersecretary Leo Jasareno stated that the miners have to justify the findings of the audit are not true. He was quoted as saying "They have to justify that the findings of the audit are not true. Kung ma-justify nila ... then ... the department will evaluate and ... render decision whether or not to suspend the operation," Jasareno said.

R. Tiglao Exposed LTO Records Showing Aquino Never Bought or Sold a Porsche

Veteran columnist Rigoberto Tiglao exposed the Land Transportation Office (LTO) records of former President Benigno Aquino III showing that he never bought or sold an expensive Porsche car. The LTO records proved that the former President did not sold his Porsche 911 Carrera car which he claimed he bought for P5 million. The controversial Porsche car of the former President made headlines just months into his presidency but he explained that he bought the luxury car with the proceeds he got when he sold his BMW. Because of the furor from such display of opulence, Pres. Aquino claimed to have sold it six months later for exactly the same price. According to Tiglao during that time he asked through his column the LTO to release the car's deed of sale and registration to prove that it was not a gift from a Chinese-Filipino tycoon as rumored by some individuals critical to the President. The only possible way to discover whether the Porsche luxury was indeed sold was through
