Duterte Admin Revives Plans to Build Metro Manila Subway

The Duterte administration is now reviving plans to build the most expensive Public-Private Partnership deal, building a Metro Manila Subway. The plan was originally proposed during the Aquino administration but failed to materialize.



The P374.5-billion ($8.8 billion) subway project in Metro Manila will connect the cities of Makati, Pasay and Taguig. The Department of Transportation headed by Sec. Arthur Tugade is now looking on the possibility of building the project under the administration of Pres. Rody Duterte.

The Metro Manila Subway project is also known as the Mass Transit System Loop or Light Rail Transit Line 5 was once considered as the most expensive PPP deal implemented under the Aquino administration but it was removed because of scheduling constraints.

Under the Duterte administration the subway PPP deal is being revisited because "there is a demand for the service." Based upon the previous plan the project would be a 20-kilometer system that will consist of 16-km tunnel, a 4-km elevated railway, consists of 11 stations.



It's main purpose is to link the Makati Central Business District (CBD), the Mall of Asia (MOA) in Pasay City, and the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig.

The Metro Manila Subway project is just one of the major railway project under the Duterte administration, it forms part of a bigger rail transport plan, which includes 7 other PPP Projects.

Some of the railway projects under the Duterte admin are the LRT1 Cavite Extension, LRT Line 4, LRT Line 6, MRT Line 7 as well as the extension of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) to Clark, Pampanga and to Los Baños, Laguna.

Tesla cloud account hacked to mine cryptocurrency

The hack also potentially exposed the electric car company's data. Researchers for RedLock found that Tesla's credentials on an IT administrative console were not password protected. They made the discovery while trying to track down which organizations had left their Amazon Web Services (AWS) credentials openly exposed on the internet last month. The hackers quietly hijacked the console and began running scripts to generate virtual currency like bitcoin, the latest in a series of "cryptojacking" attacks.
