Lawyer & Former Dean of Ateneo Defends Mocha Uson's Appointment as PCOO Asst. Secretary

Atty. Tony La Viña, a veteran lawyer and former Dean of Ateneo de Manila University's School of Government defended Mocha Uson's appointment as Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

The former dean of Ateno stated that Mocha Uson is excellent in social media work that can benefit Pres. Rody Duterte.

Atty. La Viña was quoted as saying "Kay Mocha Uson, sang ayon ako doon kasi... Sa totoo lang magaling siya sa social media and talagang magagamit niya yung social media sa agenda ng Presidente," Atty. Antonio "Tony" La Viña said in an in interview on GMA News' "Hirit ni Mareng Winnie."

The lawyer and educator added further that "Yung position na yan, maraming nagsasabi na ayaw kong magbayad ng sweldo niya. Sa totoo lang yung position na yan is specifically for the President kasi talagang spokesperson siya ng President sa social media. Talagang hindi siya magse-serve sa atin na ordinary citizen. The Communications Office serves at the pleasure of the President, para sa agenda ng President," La Viña added.

The tough-talking President of the Philippines, Pres. Duterte appointed Mocha Uson to the position as Asst. Secretary on May 8, 2017, prompting her to quit as a board member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Mocha Uson's task is to bridge the communication gap between ordinary Filipinos and the national government as well as combat fake news through social media.

The popular social media personality with more than 4.7 million followers on Facebook, Mocha Uson confirmed her appointment by saying "Ang ating pong tututukan ay ang mailapit ang mga ordinaryong Pilipino sa pamahalaan sa pamamagitan ng social media, at ma-idiretso ang TAMANG BALITA sa ating kababayan...," Uson said in a post on her Facebook page, Mocha Uson Blog.

Pres. Duterte also defended Mocha Uson's appointment amidst criticisms from some sectors of the society, the President stated that "there's nothing wrong" with his appointment of Mocha Uson.

The President stated the following in defense of Mocha Uson "She's bright. She's articulate ... And you can listen to her. You can debate with her. Tingnan mo ‘yung Facebook and she can have a very structured mind. So what’s the problem?" the President said.

According to Tiglao during that time he asked through his column the LTO to release the car's deed of sale and registration to prove that it was not a gift from a Chinese-Filipino tycoon as rumored by some individuals critical to the President. The only possible way to discover whether the Porsche luxury was indeed sold was through ...
