30 best & worst foods for your brain

Your diet affects more than just your belly fat. What you eat will either bolster your brainpower or diminish it—and who would knowingly choose to feel dumber? Everyone knows that one person who seems to be laser sharp 24/7; it’s like they don’t miss a beat—ever. It’s borderline annoying. But if we’re being honest, we all secretly want to be more like them. Why? Because they tackle their to-do lists with ease and they’re ridiculously successful. It’s like they were somehow given more brainpower than the rest of us. And, in a way, they probably were. But not in a superhuman kind of way; sure, genes play a role, but they also fuel their brains for optimal results with the very best stuff mother nature has to offer. And more importantly, they stay away from the grocery garbage that gives them brain fog and slows their spinning wheel. To boost your brainpower and nourish your noggin for a longer, more productive life, load up on our suggested eats below—and steer clear of the eats that f

Hands on with iPhone X, Apple’s radical new smartphone

© Apple For the past three years, Apple’s iPhones haven’t changed much. Or, at least they didn’t appear to on the outside: the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 7 all maintained the same slim, aluminum-crafted design with a circular home button at the bottom. Each phone came in the same size options: a 4.7-inch standard model or a larger 5.5-inch version. That’s finally changing with the iPhone X . The new iPhone, which starts at $999 and begins shipping on Nov. 3, represents the most significant design change Apple has made to the iPhone in years. Apple’s new flagship now has a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge screen that’s more vibrant than ever. Just above the display is a suite of new sensors and a depth-sensing camera that for, the first time, allows owners to unlock their phone just by looking at it. Some of these capabilities may sound familiar, and rightfully so. Several newer Samsung phones already support facial recognition. And phones made by Samsung and others also include impressiv

Jupiter’s strange auroras get curiouser and curiouser

Jupiter, like our own planet, has distinct auroras (northern lights by another name) near its poles. An aurora forms when charged particles are accelerated by a planet or brown dwarf’s magnetic field and slam into the atmosphere, creating beautiful lights in the night sky. In the case of Jupiter, many of the electromagnetic waves thrown off by its auroras are x-rays—invisible to human eyes, but key to understanding more about how auroras on Jupiter form. In a study published in Nature Astronomy this week, astronomers announced that they’d finally been able to observe Jupiter’s southern x-ray hot spot in detail using data from the XMM-Newton and Chandra space observatories in 2007 and 2016. Surprisingly, Jupiter’s x-ray hot spots weren’t exactly in synch across the hemispheres. In the southern half of the planet, the x-ray rich aurora pulses at a constant rate, spiking about every nine to twelve minutes. The northern one is much more erratic. It dims and brightens at a pace that is

Lock your car by the touch of a finger

© Provided by AFPRelaxNews The system uses vibrations to identify the finger, rather than the code it is tapping or pattern it is swiping Engineers at Rutgers University may have put their finger on a very secure but inexpensive way of allowing people to access everything from their homes to their cars without the need for a key or for complex biometric measures. Fingerprint sensors, voice recognition, iris scans and facial recognition may all be very secure ways of consumers being able to convince their digital devices that they are who they say they are, but until the technology behind such systems becomes affordable and widespread, they won't be moving beyond flagship smartphones or banking services any time soon. But with VibWrite, a new smart access system developed by a team led by professor Yingying Chen and outlined in a paper published Monday, all you could need to securely unlock or lock your car or your home is the touch of a finger. Instagram is testing a stop-motion camera for Stories

Replay Video SETTINGS OFF HD HQ SD LO UP NEXT Days after releasing its Superzoom creative tool into the wild, Instagram is testing another new tool to join it. Stop Motion is a camera tool that lets you take a long series of photos, which Instagram stitches up into a GIF that you can post in your story. Instagram confirmed it is testing the feature, which The Verge noticed as a new option inside the Story camera. The Stop Motion tool allows you to take a series of photos, but not to edit individual images. Once you’re done snapping photos, you tap “done” to gain access to story-editing tools like stickers and text. From there, you can post the stop-motion GIF to your story. © Provided by The Verge After a year spent cloning almost every aspect of Snapchat, Instagram has turned to more experimental features. Samsung announces three new CEOs and posts record profits

© Provided by The Verge Samsung Electronics CEO Kwon Oh-hyun unexpectedly announced his plans to step down earlier this month, citing the need for new leadership amid “ unprecedented crisis ,” and the company has now announced his replacements. There’ll be three leaders each with a specific area of focus — Kim Ki-nam heading up the components business, Kim Hyun-suk (HS Kim) running consumer electronics, and Koh Dong-jin (DJ Koh) in charge of mobile and IT. Yoon Boo-keun (BK Yoon) and Shin Jong-kyun (JK Shin) are resigning altogether from their previous co-CEO roles after stepping back from direct control in 2015. It’s not clear whether any one of the new leaders will have an elevated status similar to Kwon’s — Samsung’s announcement describes the new arrangement as “maintaining the current three co-CEO management structure.” Kim Ki-nam was already responsible for Samsung Electronics' overall semiconductor business, and variously in the past ran the memory division and was CEO o

Google Pixel 3: What's coming next?

© Courtesy of T3 T3 image The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are only just making their way out to buyers, so it seems like the perfect time to consider what Google might be planning for 2018 - a Pixel 3 and a Pixel 3 XL? Or even more handsets? Here we'll collect together all the rumours we've heard so far. Despite some screen issues, the verdict seems to be that the 2017 Pixels were a solid step forward from the 2016 Pixels, which themselves were pretty decent smartphones. Google knows it needs to keep innovating with the likes of Apple and Samsung around, though. The story so far © Provided by Future Publishing Ltd. On the 4th of October 2016, Google officially ditched the idea of the Nexus programme and decided to start making its own smartphones - or at least take more responsibility for the hardware design as well as the software on board. The first Pixel and Pixel XL lacked some of the key features and specs of other flagship phones, but attracted a lot of praise for

Google Earth is almost ready to work on Firefox

© Provided by Engadget Earlier this year, Google Earth finally became accessible on a browser, giving you a way to virtually explore our world without having to install its application. At the moment, though, it will only work if you're using Google Chrome, something its developers are working hard to change: their official Twitter account has just revealed that they're making good progress on bringing the web-based app to Firefox. Back when the Earth team were working on the app for the web, they only had two ways to bring native code into a browser. They chose a method called "Native Client," which only Chrome supports but promised to create another version using WebAssembly, the open standard for running native code in the browser that's still in development. Now that WebAssembly has advanced enough for the team to use, they're finally been able to show off what the Firefox port of Earth would look like. The great thing about WebAssembly is that it

OnePlus 5T leak shows nearly edge-to-edge screen

© Provided by The Verge The OnePlus 5T is rumored to arrive this fall, following up on the OnePlus 5 , which was released this past June. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed anything about the rumored phone yet. A leaked photo of the OnePlus 5T is circulating online, showing a nearly edge-to-edge screen with slim bezels. The leak is a render of the top half of the OnePlus 5T, tweeted out by Evan Blass of Venture Beat . From the image, the phone appears to have 2.5D curved glass, similar to the iPhone 8. According to an earlier leak from GizChina , the OnePlus 5T will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, an Adreno 540 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 20MP front and rear camera. The rumored 6-inch screen will reportedly have a 1080 x 2160 resolution. A tweet from OnePlus’s CEO from three days ago sparked rumors that the OnePlus 5T might have an AMOLED display from Samsung. That makes sense, since the OnePlus 5 had a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen. The phone is expected on November 16th, according to anoth

NASA releases creepy radio recordings from space

© Provided by IBT Media NASA has released a set of creepy recordings of sounds from space just in time for Halloween. A statement from the space agency said: “Soaring to the depths of our universe, gallant spacecraft roam the cosmos, snapping images of celestial wonders. Some spacecraft have instruments capable of capturing radio emissions. When scientists convert these to sound waves, the results are eerie to hear. “In time for Halloween, we've  put together a compilation of elusive "sounds" of howling planets and whistling helium that is sure to make your skin crawl.” A selection of the recordings are described below. The audio files were taken from planets, a comet and plasma waves. The first, Juno Crossing Jupiter’s Bow Shock, is the sound of NASA’s spacecraft moving across the gas giant’s magnetic field. The whistling sound suddenly turns into a deeper boom as Juno passes from an environment dominated by solar wind into Jupiter’s magnetosphere. Chorus Radio Wa

Mabilog ousted as Iloilo mayor

By: Tara Yap ILOILO CITY – Jed Patrick Mabilog is no longer the mayor of this city with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) serving the dismissal order as directed by the Office of the Ombudsman. Atty. Anthony Nuyda, DILG regional director for Western Visayas, declared yesterday Jose “Joe” Espinosa III as new city mayor. The Ombudsman order, which was decided last Aug. 29 and publicly, released last Oct. 26, had Mabilog being dismissed from service for serious dishonesty due to alleged unexplained wealth. It was former Iloilo provincial administrator Manuel “Boy” Mejorada who filed the complaint against Mabilog. In its findings, the Ombudsman deemed it peculiar that Mabilog’s net worth increased by P8.9 million from 2012 to 2013. On his part, Mabilog reasoned the increase was due to a loan his wife secured from the Bank of Canada. President Duterte has repeatedly hit Mabilog for his alleged ill-gotten wealth, claiming it came from illegal drug transactions.

Adriano Moraes motivated to remain as flyweight king at ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD

Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes may have just reclaimed the undisputed ONE Flyweight World Championship nearly three months ago, but he is already preparing for the first title defense of his second reign as the division’s kingpin. The 29-year-old Brazilian champion is slated to put his coveted gold-plated strap on the line against Filipino prospect Danny “The King” Kingad in the co-main event of ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD, which takes place at the 20,000-seater SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines on 10 November. Moraes may be riding a wave of momentum after snapping archrival Kairat Akhmetov’s perfect 23-bout winning streak via unanimous decision and unifying the ONE Flyweight World Championship in a title unification rematch this past August, but he will not overlook Kingad as his Filipino foe is a legitimate threat to his second title reign. “Danny Kingad is a great competitor and he has earned the highest level of my respect. Tyronn Lue Calls Out Cavs Players for Troubling Start to Season

© Ezra Shaw/GettyImages 2017 NBA Finals - Game Five It's seven games into the Cleveland Cavaliers' season and they're looking worse than ever.  They're a measly 3-4, and although LeBron James is playing well, no one else is stepping up to the plate.  Despite a bevy of problems including lack of production on offense, the most obvious is the team's defense -- or lack of it. The team is slow to rotate to the open man, closeouts are half-hearted, and assignments are being blown left and right.  So far this season, the Cavs have put forth seven lackluster defensive efforts, most notably in their double-digit loss to the New York Knicks.  Head coach Tyronn Lue as an idea about what is causing the poor defensive effort. Here's what he told Joe Vardon of the Cleveland Plain Dealer: "Guys got to get in better shape, we understand that. A lot of times when we make runs guys ask to come out because they're tired. Why You’re So Hungry After Daylight Saving Time Ends

© Provided by Eat This, Not That! Cupcakes Setting our clocks back an hour when daylight saving time ends in November seems like a bummer, especially since that means the sun will set even earlier in the evening and we have nothing but shorter days to look forward to. The only plus seems to be that extra hour of sleep we get overnight—except that’s not exactly the case. Turns out, DST wreaks havoc on not only your sleep schedule, but also your hunger hormones. According to a review in the journal Sleep Medicine Reviews , folks actually catch less Zzz’s the week following autumn’s daylight saving time—not more, as many people assume—because the transition messes with your sleep cycle or circadian rhythm. And, as many of us already know, less sleep is usually synonymous with an angrier appetite. “Lack of sleep can lead to increased levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, and decreased levels of leptin, the satiety hormone,” Alissa Rumsey, registered dietitian and spokesperson for the
