Video shows women taken hostage by Maute ask Duterte to rescue them

© Provided by GMA News Online hijab A video of women who were supposedly held hostage by Maute group members in Marawi City has surfaced in the social media. According to a report by Maki Pulido on "24 Oras" on Wednesday, the women were appealing to President Rodrigo Duterte for their rescue. The seven hostages were all wearing hijab. It was unclear when and where the video was taken. A video of another alleged hostage, Father Teresito "Chito" Suganob, has also spread in the social media. The report said the military was still looking into the motive behind the video. "Seemingly the video may seem to be authentic but beyond the authenticity and the message of the video, there lies in the real reason for coming up with a video which is propaganda purposes and we would not want to get into that," Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said. Suganob, in the video, was seen pleading with the military to stop its off

Apple is manufacturing a Siri speaker to outdo Google and Amazon

© Bloomberg/Bloomberg 1476302005_apple-store (Bloomberg) -- Apple Inc. is already in your pocket, on your desk and underneath your television. Soon, a device embossed with “Designed by Apple in California” may be on your nightstand or kitchen counter as well. The iPhone-maker has started manufacturing a long-in-the-works Siri-controlled smart speaker, according to people familiar with the matter. Apple could debut the speaker as soon as its annual developer conference in June, but the device will not be ready to ship until later in the year, the people said.  The device will differ from Amazon.com Inc.’s Echo and Alphabet Inc.’s Google Home speakers by offering virtual surround sound technology and deep integration with Apple’s product lineup, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss products that aren’t yet public. Introducing a speaker would serve two main purposes: providing a hub to automate appliances and lights via Apple’s HomeKit system, and establishing a bulwa

The Gear VR now supports Chromecast

© Provided by The Verge Oculus has added Google Chromecast support to the Samsung Gear VR headset, so users can stream virtual reality experiences to their TV using a new cast button on the Oculus mobile app. This means that other people can now watch what you’re doing inside virtual reality — an option that’s long been possible on tethered headsets like the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR, but absent from phone-based mobile VR. Oculus brags that Gear VR is the only headset to officially support Chromecast right now, although Google is including Chromecast support in a Daydream VR update rolling out later this year. Most tethered headsets are already indirectly connected to a monitor or TV, so they can mirror the headset display automatically. People watching a cast won’t be able to interact with apps or get the full experience of being in the Gear VR. But this option can make VR seem less isolating in a group setting, and it’s easier to guide new users through the interface when

Google's latest addition to Allo is custom GIFs of your face

© Provided by Engadget It seems like Google hopes tickling your funnybone will keep its Allo chat app installed on your phone. The latest update adds selfie clips so you can add a personalized touch to your responses. Essentially, they're just looped GIFs made from a video of whatever's in front of your phone's camera. Allo's head of product Amit Fulay tweeted the info out earlier today, including the GIF below. In the thread, Fulay says that the update is available to all users. Now, it's worth noting that this sort of thing has been available via Giphy Cam before, but it being built directly into Allo (among the recent slew of updates) suggests that Google isn't giving up on its latest chat app just yet. Manny 'only for boxing, not MMA'

MANILA, Philippines – Freddie Roach is in favor of pitting Manny Pacquiao against UFC star Conor McGregor. But only if it is a boxing match and nothing more. Roach on Tuesday said he doesn't see Pacquiao competing as a mixed martial artist. "I'm not sure about that [Pacquiao in MMA]. I mean the sport is different and I don't think the matchup is very different and the rules will decide the winner. If it's a boxing match, yes we'll fight him (McGregor) but I haven't talked to Manny about it," the multi-awarded trainer said during an appearance at the weekly PSA Forum at the Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City. Roach made the comment amid a recent , the reigning UFC lightweight champion who's currently pursuing a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Arum said McGregor can go for Pacquiao if he can't strike a deal with the retired Mayweather. But if McGregor hopes he can lure Pacquiao into a fight inside the octagon, it won't happen, according to Roa

So what else is new?

SO WHAT – Highspeed’s items on Filipino stars with foreign blood drew varied reactions from readers, one of them saying, “So what else is new?” From way back, there were many mestizos and mestizas in local showbiz. Readers conceded then there were few with Middle Eastern roots. Now they’re all over showbiz and other fields, thanks to Filipinos who work in Arab countries and who have married “natives.” Same is true among those who work in European countries like Germany and Italy. Speaking of Italy, at least two readers asked why Matteo Guidicelli wasn’t included on Highspeed’s list of Fil-Italians. Mea culpa. They reminded that even before Matteo, there was Italian mestiza Consuelo Regotti, more popularly known as Linda Estrella, mother of the biggest child star of the ‘50s, Tessie Agana. • GERMANS – So, Julia Montes is half-German (father side), but three of the beautiful stars of the ‘50s have German blood (also father side). Hat tip to Deadspin for transcribing her ramblings: This: “Tennis is full of lesbians. Even when I was playing there were only a couple there but those couple that led took young ones into parties. And what you get at the top is often what you’ll get right through that sport.” This: “The gay lobby is behind that bullying program in schools and children not knowing, whether they are taking out a ‘he’ or a ‘she’ and an ‘it’ and a ‘we’ or ‘they’ and if you feel like bein

Understated Nadal hits top gear

By Ossian Shine To Rafa Nadal's extraordinary list of achievements in Paris, the nine-times French Open champion might well add 'Master of Understatement'. "I think I played a good match," the Spaniard offered, almost as a question, when asked about his form in thrashing Robin Haase 6-1 6-4 6-3. There would be few in the Roland Garros crowds on Wednesday who would disagree with that analysis - least of all Dutchman Haase, who appeared shell-shocked at the end. © REUTERS Tennis: French Open "I think I did a lot of things well this afternoon," Nadal added, with almost comedic understatement. Nadal was irresistible. Pummelling the ball with such force that it appeared distorted into an oval shape at times, he was able to toy with his opponent until ready to finish him off. The hour spent drilling forehand after forehand on the main showcourt in the morning before fans were admitted had been time well spent. "I felt I had things pretty much un
