© InterAksyon bago city negros occidental BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Four members of a family, including a four-year old boy, were killed when a truck loaded with sugarcane toppled and crushed their car in Bago City, Negros Occidental Thursday afternoon. Romulo Espinosa, 59, his wife Josephine, 53, their daughter Christine Sarcia, 31, and Christine’s son Vincent John, 4, were on their way home to La Carlota City from Bacolod City when an oncoming 10-wheeler truck trailer driven by Herman Mahometano, 58, fell onto its side and crushed their Hyundai Eon hatchback in Barangay Atipuluan, Bago City. It took 30 minutes to retrieve the victims because they needed a crane to lift the truck upright, police said. Mahometano, who initially fled but surrendered later, said he was negotiating a curve when he felt the trailer begin to sway and then lost control of the truck. Witnesses told local radio Romulo apparently noticed something wrong with the truck and stopped his car. Unfortunately

GM plans to put self-driving cars to work in cities in 2019

© Provided by Engadget GM plans to get its autonomous cars driving commercially around cities by 2019. That's according to a presentation posted on the automaker's website, which stated that at its current rate, GM expects "commercial launch at scale" to happen after next year. That includes commercial use for both item delivery and passenger carrying. The latter could refer to the autonomous taxi fleet of Bolt EVs GM plans to launch in 2018, which its preparing for with additional testing . The could offer its own service as well, given how much things have cooled between GM's autonomous Cruise division and Lyft.) Whatever rollout the automaker has planned for 2019, it probably isn't referring to a small program. Amazon's Alexa will soon offer personalized responses

© Provided by CNET echo-2-product-photos-23 Amazon's Alexa last month gained the ability to recognize different voices . Now Amazon is taking that feature a step further, by teaching its voice assistant to offer up personalized responses when it recognizes a customer's voice. A handful of developers are already testing this new capability, and this personalization tool will be more broadly available to developers next year, Amazon said Thursday. The personalization ability, part of a wave of new features unveiled at Amazon Web Services' annual re:Invent conference, could help make Alexa more enjoyable for customers to use and help cut down on the smart assistant's sometimes canned responses. Moving forward, more personalization could help Alexa come across as more human, making people want to interact with her more often, and help the assistant carry on longer conversations. Developers could use the new feature to create Alexa skills (Amazon's term for voice-

In an email to Aviation Week , SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell said, "We wanted to fly Heavy this year. We should be able to static fire this year and fly a couple of weeks right after that." The static fire test will be the first time that all of Heavy's 27 Merlin engines will be fired at once. And if all goes well there, Falcon Heavy should be ready for launch within the first few weeks of 2018. There have been multiple launch delays with Heavy, which Elon Musk has attributed to the development of such a large and powerful rocket being "way, way more dif

The Worst New Restaurant Dishes of 2017

Restaurants in 2017 gave us some of the most caloric dishes in America. How do you feel about cooking? According to new research , only about 10 percent of people actually love it. If you’re anything like the majority, you’ve probably ordered takeout or dined out one too many times this year. But have you stopped to think about the outrageous items on the menu before placing your order? Unfortunately for us health-conscious folks, 2017 was filled with highly caloric and health-harming new menu items. If you’re planning to order dinner via Seamless or at a restaurant tonight, check out which new menu additions you should definitely avoid at your favorite restaurants. 25 Best and Worst Frozen Party Appetizers

Frozen apps make entertaining guests easy and stress-free. But there are some options that are a nutritional nightmare—here’s what to serve and what to skip. When it comes to celebrations, everyone know that the pre-game and the after-party are always more fun than the main event. And we’d argue that the same rule holds true when it comes to eating: Appetizers—the food world’s equivalent to a pre-party—and desserts are always the best parts. That said, if you’re hosting a party or just want to kick off a dinner with some light bites, you’ll want to take care in curating your menu—especially if you’re going the frozen appetizer route. While pairing crudites and a cheese plate with some frozen mini burgers can take the stress out of entertaining, there are so many ways it can go wrong. Will the food actually taste as appealing as it looks on the box? Will people be able to tell it’s not homemade? And in terms of nutrition, are you basically serving fancy fast food? To answer these ques

20 Resolutions Diet Experts Want You to Make

Reasonable, purposeful suggestions from nutrition experts that will make a huge impact on your health. Every New Year’s Eve as the ball drops, you tell yourself that this will be the year you’re finally going to shed those pounds. While we give you major props for wanting to lose weight and make a healthy change in your life, the only issue is that resolutions—more often than not—don’t work. In fact, 30 percent of all New Year’s resolutions are broken before February, according to a poll by the time management firm Franklin Covey. It’s the nature of out-of-the-box resolutions that sets people up for failure. Often times, they are either too restrictive (“I’m going to cut out carbs”), not specific enough (“I’m going to lose weight”) or simply something you don’t genuinely want to change (“I’m going to become a vegan”— even though you love dairy and meat). But we aren’t here to discourage you. Sticking to your resolution is absolutely possible if you change your goal-setting approach

Richard-Angel chemistry

‘LA LUNA SANGRE’ – Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin haven’t lost their screen chemistry despite not sharing the limelight for several years. This they proved – and continue to do so – in ABS-CBN’s “La Luna Sangre,” where they play the antagonists of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. To quote one viewer, a lady movie columnist, “Ang lakas ng dating nila. Halos sila na ang nagdadala ng istorya.” It’ll be called that for GMA and Regal, Richard and Angel co-starred in one blockbuster after the other. But the tandem stopped when Angel transferred to ABS-CBN and Star Cinema. Richard remained with GMA and remained the network’s unchallenged primetime king. When Richard turned freelancer, ABS-CBN wisely cast him with Angel in “La Luna Sangre.” A starrer opposite Angel in a movie for Star Cinema is coming up. And so the screen chemistry continues. To think they are only friends..not lovers. • CHEMISTRY – While at it, Highspeed enumerates loveteams with chemistry even if they are (we

Cagayan de Oro City – Protesters from various groups in Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Lanao provinces held a flashmob-like lightning rally Thursday along the national highway here commemorating Andres Bonifacio Day and to call out the Duterte Administration for its tyrannical and oppressive tendencies. “Today we mark the 154th birthday of our hero Andres Bonifacio, who successfully spearheaded the call for revolution against the Spanish colonizers. New research raises questions about vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy

New Canadian research suggests that despite the findings of recent studies, there is insufficient evidence to guide recommendations on vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy.  Carried out by The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, the study analyzed results from 43 randomized controlled trials involving 8,406 women, to look at the effects of taking vitamin D supplements during pregnancy on 11 maternal and 27 child outcomes.  The team found that taking supplements during pregnancy did increase vitamin D levels in both the mother's bloodstream and umbilical cord blood, however they did not consistently find that higher doses of vitamin D led to healthier women and babies. Although overall vitamin D increased average birth weight by 58g and reduced the risk of having a small baby, the more detailed analyses included in the research caused the authors to doubt the strength of these findings. In addition, there was also a lack of evidence to suggest that vitamin D supplements

Gonzalez has a 21-1-0 win-loss-draw card with eight KOs while Sandoval has a 26-3-0 slate with 18 KOs. Ancajas, who floored hometowner Jamie Conlan four times at the SSE Arena in Belfa
