Just days after happily announcing her pregnancy in the ABS-CBN noontime show, “It’s Showtime,” actress and TV host Mariel Rodriguez happily shared more details about it with members of the media.

During the press launch of the newly reinvented Hotel Sogo where Mariel and husband Robin Padilla were also introduced as the lodging hotel chain’s celebrity ambassadors, the happy couple revealed that Mariel is now three months in the family way and are hopeful that this time they will be finally blessed with their very first child.

“I’m so proud and so happy. I really wanted to share this news with everyone but I have to wait for my doctor’s go-signal. And I also needed to get past the first trimester but I really want to shout ‘yes’ out loud but I didn’t want to jinx it but so far, so good,” Mariel said, speaking in mostly Filipino.

As this is her longest pregnancy, Mariel feels that “this is it” although she and Robin are understandably approaching her coming date with the stork with guarded optimism. As in Mariel’s previous pregnancies which

,

this one is not without its share of challenges.

Robin explained that his wife has strong antibodies so Mariel needs to be injected with the blood thinner Heparin twice a day to reduce the risks of miscarriage and other pregnancy complications. In addition, Mariel also needs to take daily insulin shots since she revealed that she has a condition called gestational diabetes which affects many women during their pregnancy.

“What she’s going through, the sacrifices she’s making for our child is not easy. It’s a difficult process,” Robin added.

Despite the challenges, Robin and Mariel consider it a blessing to be given another chance to have a child again.

“We didn’t plan this. It just happened. I couldn’t believe it’s for real so I’m very excited,” Mariel exclaimed.

Although admittedly devastated by the loss of their unborn babies last year, Robin and Mariel managed to pick up the pieces and started to become visible again on television. Although he had to give up his lead role in the MMFF entry “Nilalang,” Robin returned to ABS-CBN and recently finished his stint as one of the judges in “Pilipinas Got Talent.”

Mariel also returned to the Kapamilya Network late last year starting with “Pinoy Big Brother: 737” where she was both a co-host and celebrity houseguest. This was followed by her ongoing hosting gig on “It’s Showtime.”

As endorsers of Hotel Sogo, Robin and Mariel will be featured in several print, radio and TV ads.

They will also be featured in several advertisements on TV, radio and print. They will also support Hotel Sogo’s social initiatives including its “Doctors on Wheels” program that provides free medical consultations and medications to the under-served communities throughout the country.

You can pay at a restaurant by smiling at a camera

© Provided by Engadget As easy as it is to make purchases in the era of tap-to-pay services , it's about to get easier still. Alipay (which handles purchases for Chinese shopping giant Alibaba) has launched what it says is the first payment system that uses facial recognition to complete the sale. If you visit one of KFC's KPRO restaurants in Hangzhou, China, you can pay for your panini or salad by smiling at a camera-equipped kiosk -- you need to verify the purchase on your phone, but you don't have to punch in digits or bring your phone up to an NFC reader. The system (Smile to Pay) is purportedly resistant to spoofing with photos and other tricks. It relies on both depth-sensing cameras and a "likeness detection algorithm" to make sure it's really you. Reportedly, the technology is good enough that it can accurately identify people even when they're disguising themselves through makeup or wigs. You shouldn't have to worry about someone buying ...

Tesla cloud account hacked to mine cryptocurrency

© Provided by The Hill An unidentified outside hacker infiltrated Tesla's Amazon cloud account and used its systems to quietly mine for cryptocurrencies, a cybersecurity firm announced Tuesday. The hack also potentially exposed the electric car company's data. Researchers for RedLock found that Tesla's credentials on an IT administrative console were not password protected. They made the discovery while trying to track down which organizations had left their Amazon Web Services (AWS) credentials openly exposed on the internet last month. The hackers quietly hijacked the console and began running scripts to generate virtual currency like bitcoin, the latest in a series of "cryptojacking" attacks. The researchers also found the hackers used "sophisticated evasion measures" to go undetected. A spokesperson for Tesla said the company learned about the breach in a company-sanctioned bug bounty program that pays outside hackers to discover vulnerabilitie...
