31 devotees injured in Dec. 31 Black Nazarene procession

MANILA, Philippines — At least 31 Nazareno devotees were reported hurt in the annual thanksgiving procession of the faithful at Quiapo Church, Manila early Sunday morning.

According to a radio report by DzBB, the 31 were given first aid.

The report said that some of the faithful experienced dizziness and fainted. They were immediately brought to the medical teams on stand by.

Medical tents were stationed around Quiapo Church in anticipation of the flocking of Nazarene devotees.

As early as 1:00 a.m., the Manila Police District closed off roads along the procession route.

Thousands also flock for the "translacion" in celebration of the Black Nazarene's feast day every January 9. 

Every Good Friday, and December 31st and January 9th of the year, the image of the Black Nazarene is brought out in public for public veneration.

You can pay at a restaurant by smiling at a camera

Alipay (which handles purchases for Chinese shopping giant Alibaba) has launched what it says is the first payment system that uses facial recognition to complete the sale. If you visit one of KFC's KPRO restaurants in Hangzhou, China, you can pay for your panini or salad by smiling at a camera-equipped kiosk -- you need to verify the purchase on your phone, but you don't have to punch in digits or bring your phone up to an NFC reader. The system (Smile to Pay) is purportedly resistant to spoofing with photos and other tricks. It relies on both depth-sensing cameras and a "likeness detection algorithm" to make sure it's really you. ADB sells green bonds to spur climate change funding
